Butch Cassidy Celebration - Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site

Butch Cassidy Celebration - June 8

The annual Butch Cassidy Celebration is a fun, family day with many activities.

A group of Bolivian Dancers performed at the celebration.  They also had some Bolivian food which was delicious.  Picture of Bill and a Bolivian Dancer.

A cute miniature donkey wagon

A highlight of the day is the "Prison Escape" where two "convicts escape" and a kid posse is formed to bring the escapees back to the prison.  Bill was one of the prison guards.

Two 16 year old kids as the criminals

Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site-Laramie

When we were volunteers at this historic site two summers ago we took a lot of pictures of the site and the surrounding area.  They are still on our blog in the 2011 section.

Beautiful sunset from our RV site.

This is the view of the Old Homestead area at the historic site that we see from our RV spot.

We've seen animals and birds from our RV site:
Mule Deer

 Chipmunk

Northern Flicker

and a squirrel "stealing" bird seed

Bill is also portraying a guard this time - he has been given the name "Texas Slim"

Hutton Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

Hutton Lakes NWR is near Laramie.  The water level on the lakes was low.  Check out the interesting clouds.

Protestant Chapel - pictures can not due it justice

Partial view of the Cadet area

At noon the Cadets gathered in front of their residence halls to march to the dining hall. Also, the band played and the "colors" were presented.  It was an impressive site.

We fortunate to be able to see visit some of the Cadet areas not open to the public because we had a connection with one of the professors.  One of those areas was the dining hall.  Approximatley 4000 Cadets are served family style by an "army of servers", eat and exit in 25 minutes.  The dining hall is about 2 acres in size.

Snow in Monument, CO

Snow fell in Monument, CO (I 25 north of Colorado Springs) on May 1 which is unusual. We enjoyed watching it snow while we were in our warm "home on wheels".

In the evening and overnight it snowed more
