Ehrenberg, Parker and Quartzsite, AZ

Ehrenberg is on the Colorado River at the Arizona/California border.  We stayed in Ehrenberg at the Colorado River Oasis RV Park.  The Pioneer Cemetery was right across the street.

One day we to Parker which is also on the Colorado River at the Arizona/California.  Outside of town is a Colorado River Indian Tribes (C.R.I.T) Casino which also includes an indoor waterpark and a 6 screen movie theater.

 



 

 

 

Quartzsite is a town with a population of about 3,500 people. Not much here, but we did explore the town.  What's hard to imagine is that every January, according to the Arizona Highway Department, as many as 750,000 to 1,000,000 people, mostly in RV’s, converge on this sleepy little desert town for the rock, gem and mineral shows, plus numerous flea markets. 

  

 

 

 

 

  

Celia's Rainbow Garden is the result of a community working together to make a child's dream come true.  The garden was inspired by the dreams of Celia Winer, an 8 year old girl whose goal in life was to make the world a better place.  Celia was a happy, bright and sensitive little girl who loved everyone.  She died on October 25, 1994 from a viral heart infection.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



Pahrump RV Resort, Pahrump, NV

We stayed at the Preferred RV Resort in Pahrump.  It was a nice RV park with a pretty cactus garden and pond with huge carp.

 

 



Shoshone, CA

Shoshone is in the southern Death Valley area.

 

 

China Ranch Date Farm, Tecopa, CA

China Ranch is a family owned and operated small farm, a lush piece of greenery amidst the forbidding Mojave desert near southern Death Valley. Very interesting place!!!

The cloth bags are placed around the dates to protect them from birds.

 



Pahrump Valley Winery, NV

Located near Las Vegas in Pahrump, NV, Pahrump Valley Winery produces award winning wines.  We toured the winery - very interesting.

Death Valley National Park-Badwater

Badwater is the lowest elevation in North America, 282 ft below sea level.

Death Valley National Park- Scotty's Castle

Scotty's Castle lies in Grapevine Canyon, in northern Death Valley National Park.  The nearest services are 44 miles away.  Death Valley Scotty was a nationwide celebrity through the first half of the 20th century.  Scotty (Walter Scott) was part of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and was also know for "tall tales".  His biggest tall tale was about the gold mine he had found in Death Valley.  One of his investors, Chicago businessman Albert Johnson, realized that there never was a gold mine.  In spite of this fact he became friends with Scotty.  Both Albert Johnson and his wife Bessie were take with the peacefulness and scenic beauty of Death Valley.  Scotty's Castle is a showpiece of the treasure that these three found in the desert.  The Johnson's found luxury and comfort in their home, beauty and tranquity in the desert, and life-long friendship with the charismatic con-man, Death Valley Scotty.  It is truly a remarkable place!!
