Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, Coolidge, AZ

Casa Grande is an ancient building from the Hohokam Indians.  The building stood four stories high and 60 feet long with a platform mound filling the first floor.  It is the largest known structure of the Ancestral People of the Sonoran Desert.  It was built from caliche, a concrete-like mix of sand, clay, and limestone.  It took 3,000 tons to build the "Great House".  Very fascinating place!!!!

Apache Trail, AZ

The Apache Trail is a loop through the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix.  The trail served as a stage coach and freight wagon route form Mesa to Globe.  Indians, cowboys, and miners have all roamed the mysterious Superstition Mountains.  Jacob Waltz's Lost Dutchman Mine is still waiting to be discovered in a hidden canyon.

Chain fruit cholla looks like a bunch of grapes hanging from the cactus.
