The primary purpose of the refuge is to protect the nesting habitat of the
golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo, two highly endangered migratory
birds. On one of our days off when we were hosting at Guadalupe River State park, we visited the refuge and hiked the Cactus Rock Trail in the Warble Vista area. The warbler and vireo has not arrived yet
